Search and Spotlight

Search YouTube Music from the top bar, jump anywhere with Spotlight, and find songs inside a playlist.

Orchard has three ways to find things: the top bar search box, Spotlight search, and Quick Search inside a playlist.

Search for a song, album, artist, or playlist

  1. Select the Search YouTube Music… box in the top bar.
  2. Type what you want. Results appear as you type.
  3. Click a result. A song plays, and an album, artist, or playlist opens its page.

Select the clear button (“Clear search”) at the right end of the box to empty it.

Filter search results

The Search page has filter tabs: All, Songs, Videos, Albums, Artists, and Playlists. Select a tab to show one kind of result. The All tab starts with a “Top result” and shows a View all › link on each group.

The Search page also shows the number of results, for example “24 results”. It shows “No results for” followed by your text when nothing matches, and a Try again button when the search fails.

Play a video result

Select a video on the Search page, in Spotlight, on Home, in your library, or on an artist page. Orchard plays it and opens the music video player. See Watch music videos.

Press / or Ctrl+K. Spotlight opens with the placeholder “Search songs, albums, artists, pages…”. The / shortcut does nothing while you type in a text box. Both shortcuts do nothing while the fullscreen player, Spotlight, or Settings is open.

Spotlight lists songs, albums, artists, playlists, and videos. It also lists Orchard pages and actions: Home, Your library, Queue, Settings, Docs, and Search Orchard.

Use Spotlight with the keyboard

  1. Type your search.
  2. Press the Up arrow or Down arrow to move through the results.
  3. Press Enter to open the highlighted result.
  4. Press Esc to close Spotlight.

While you type, the first row is the entry Search for followed by your text, and it is highlighted at first. Pressing Enter on it opens the full results page. Spotlight shows “No matches found” when nothing fits.

Quick Search finds songs in the playlist that is open.

  1. Open a playlist page and wait for its songs to load.
  2. Type any letter or number. Quick Search opens with the placeholder “Find in” followed by the playlist name.
  3. Press the Up arrow or Down arrow to move through the matches. The playlist scrolls to the highlighted song.
  4. Press Enter to play the highlighted song.
  5. Press Esc to close Quick Search.

Quick Search shows “Type to find” before you type, the match count such as “3 matches”, and “No tracks match” followed by your text when nothing fits.

Open the song menu from a search result

Right-click a result, or select its “More options” button. The menu holds Play next, Add to queue, Add to playlist…, View album, View artist, and the copy-link entries. See Manage the queue and Library and playlists.
